People who do not smoke can also fall prey to this disease. As we are aware that lung cancer is divided into two categories, namely small cell lung cancer and non-small cell lung cancer. There are further subtypes of non-small cell lung cancer. It is categorized in three subtypes, namely adenocarcinoma, squamous cell and large cell carcinoma. These three kinds of non-small cell lung cancer form the entire case of the disease. Here are some details about the subtypes.
AdenocarcinomaThis type of non-small cell lung cancer is common in the cases of never smokers, i.e. those people who have never smoked in their life. To elaborate the fact, adenocarcinoma makes up about 40% of lung cancer cases. It can be said that this is the most common type of lung cancer generally diagnosed. It is known to start from the cells in your lungs responsible for making mucus and other substances. Out of all other lung cancers, it generally grows very slowly. It is most diagnosed in cases in which patients are reported to be less than 45 years old.
Squamous cell and Large cell carcinomaSquamous cell carcinoma is generally diagnosed in men rather than women. It accounts of a quarter of lung cancer cases. People who are habituated to tobacco smoking are diagnosed with this type of non-small cell lung cancer. Compared to this, Large cell carcinoma consists of about 10% of diagnosis related to lung cancer. As it spreads at a quicker rate compared to other type of lung cancers, it is difficult to treat. Most of the survival cases of this category of lung cancer were treated very early.
